Legal Assistant
Prestigious Law firm is looking for a Legal Assistant to perform a wide range of administrative and clerical tasks for a group of attorneys including preparation of legal documents, interacting with clients, scheduling, facilitating the meeting of deadlines and utilizing practice specific software.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Drafting and formatting memos, correspondence, legal documents and various forms.
- Proofread material for correct grammar, punctuation, spelling, and formatting.
- Organize workload to comply with deadlines and priorities established by attorneys.
- Open and maintain client files including records management related to clients and to the firm.
- Schedule court depositions, court reporters, expert witnesses, hearings, and other special functions.
- Prepare GLC work requests.
- Schedule practice related meetings and appointments.
- Make travel or conference arrangements, as needed.
- Coordinate a variety of accounting duties including pro forma edits, check requests,
- matter intake and matter update forms and various billing tasks.
- Assist other Legal Assistants outside the practice team, as needed.
- Continue enhancing job knowledge and skill set by participating in educational and training opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- 2+ years of administrative experience in the legal field or equivalent.
- 2- or 4-year college degree a plus
- Knowledge of the most current processes and procedures for the respective practice area,
- for example, docketing knowledge and electronic filing for commercial litigation practice area.
- Knowledge of legal terminology, legal forms and documents, legal practices and procedures and how to resource.
- Strong technical skills, including knowledge of MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, document management programs and Internet applications.
- Attention to detail including proof reading experience to include correcting grammatical, typographical and spelling errors and perform minor editing of routine law correspondence and legal case matters.
- Multi-tasking and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Excellent written, verbal and listening skills. Ability to interpret instructions provided in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
